TREATMENT OF GINGIVITIS

    Signs of gingivitis include:

  • Swollen gums
  • Bright red or purple gums
  • Shiny appearance of the gums
  • Gums that are tender or painful to the touch
  • Bleeding gums during brushing and flossing
  • Bad breath (halitosis)
  • Sensitive teeth with no apparent cause

Gingivitis is reversible with good oral hygiene. However, in the absence of treatment, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis (irreversible gum disease).

TREATMENT OF PERIODONTITIS (GUM DISEASE)

  • Bleeding gums during brushing and flossing
  • Recurrent gum swelling
  • Halitosis (bad breath)
  • Gingival recession, resulting in apparent lengthening of teeth
  • Deep pockets between the teeth and gums
  • Loose teeth (occurs in the later stage of the disease)

PERIODONTITS CAUSES

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Gingivitis
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Genetics

PERIODONTITIS PREVENTION

  • Control of diabetes and smoking

FISSURE SEALANTS

A sealant is a thin plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth. Teeth with deep groves are hard to clean and are very susceptible to decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep groves, creating a smooth, easy to clean surface.

NIGHTGUARD (BRUXGUARD)

An acrylic mouthguard that protects the teeth/joints from strong vertical forces produced by grinding (bruxism). A nightguard forces the relaxation of the muscles and prevents damage to the oral cavity.

SPORTSGUARD (MOUTHGUARDS)

Plastic coverings are worn over teeth that are used to protect teeth from injury during sports or other activities.
