Working Together

Ideally, your first visit is designed to give you and our Port Coquitlam office a total picture of your present condition and needs. To provide this properly we require important information. This is obtained by taking medical and dental histories and a thorough oral examination including x-rays and study models. Following the examination we will discuss our findings with you and recommend treatment. Any questions you have about treatment are important because they enable you to be a participant in making decisions regarding your dental care. Please do not hesitate to ask questions.

Individual Care for Individual Smiles

Generally speaking, tooth decay and gum disease are preventable. With proper home care and preventive dentistry, your dental treatment needs and the investment required will be much reduced. Your gums are equally important as your teeth; the health of each depends on the other. As part of this, we will demonstrate and discuss the necessary oral hygiene skills that will benefit you, as well as recommend a preventive program of regular check-ups suited to your needs.

We feel that learning how to take care of your teeth begins when you are young, we recommend bringing children into the office at around age 2 and a half years to get them acquainted with the office and staff. Then, at age 3, we recommend bringing them in so the Doctor can count their teeth and our Hygienist can clean them. If we can treat a child before any cavities get started they will get a lifelong positive outlook on dental care.

We know your time is valuable: therefore, we will try and arrange and complete any active treatment as efficiently as possible. To accomplish this, maintaining your scheduled appointments is of the utmost importance. If you cannot keep an appointment we request 24 hours notice or a charge may be made. Since the Doctor and staff have reserved this time for you it is very important to give us as much notice as possible.

Patients with a sudden acute problem such as an injury or toothache will be seen the same day if at all possible. If we cannot render complete treatment, we certainly will try to make you more comfortable.

A Special Message of Insurance

Simply stated, your dental benefit program (insurance) is a contract between you, your employer and the insurance company. We are not part of the contract. However, as a service to you, we will work with your plan by processing your claims and accepting direct payments. With dental insurance, there are numerous and wide variety of plans which make it impossible for us to know all the details about every patients coverage. Some dental plans could lead you to believe that all items are covered when sometimes they are not. Therefore, to minimize problems involving insurance, it is your responsibility to understand your plan and to keep us abreast of any changes. As the dental health care is being provided to you, our patient, and not the insurance company, we would like to remind you that you are ultimately responsible for paying for the service to you. If you have difficulties in interpreting your plan we will be happy to go over it with you.

Financial Matters

Our fees follow those published by the College of Dental Surgeons of BC fee guide and are accepted by most insurance companies. Payment is due as treatment is rendered. For your convenience we offer a variety of payment methods: VISA, MasterCard and Interac.

Our Specialties

  • Having a great smile can make a huge difference in the way you look and feel. We offer a complete range of cosmetic treatments to create the confident smile you’ve always wanted. We begin with a detailed smile assessment, discussing with you which aspects you like and dislike about your smile. Once our assessment is complete, we will discuss with you treatment options to help your smile look more natural, youthful and healthy.

  • Dental implants are man-made replacements for natural teeth. The implants themselves are artificial tooth roots anchored in the gum or jawbone, on which replacement teeth are permanently secured. Because implanted teeth are fixed in the mouth rather than being removable like dentures, they allow a return to the comfort and function of natural teeth. Increased chewing ability means you can enjoy more nutritious foods, contributing to your overall health and well being. In short, dental implants improve the quality of your life. They can improve your appearance, boost your self-confidence and allow you to speak with greater clarity.

  • At Burke Mountain Dental we offer digital x-rays which are computer generated images. These images require up to 90% less radiation than with conventional film type x-rays. Instead of using the traditional silver-oxide x-ray film that must be developed and then fixed in caustic and environmentally damaging solutions, the new system takes pictures via a small electronic sensor and instantaneously transmits a picture of the tooth onto the video monitor in the treatment room. Therefore, we can see your teeth and surrounding structures immediately.
